Breathe to Awaken

"Breathe" uses a simple breathing exercise developed by Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. The 4-7-8 technique (inhale for a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 7, and exhale for a count of 8) helps quickly fight anxiety by regulating your breathing and bringing more oxygen to your lungs, thereby relaxing your nervous system.

According to Dr. Weil, "This is not a method that you can do once and get right the first time. It requires some practice but is utterly simple."

"This is an interesting approach. It's based on yoga breathing control techniques to relax the body and the mind," says Claude Gronfier, a researcher at the Chronobiology Department of the Inserm Unit in Bron (Lyon), in Sciences et Avenir magazine.

Recommendation: Do "Breathe to Awaken" in the morning and "Breathe to Sleep" in the evening before bed.
